This is more than a sign of an impending serious ailment. Your condition is a serious ailment in and of itself. Any kind of nasal congestion and sore throat lasting more than 10 days is considered serious. I recommend you visit your doctor right away to discover what is wrong with you.

Sore throat and nasal congestion can have a number of causes. You may have or keep getting some form of virus or bacterial infection. You may have a chronic condition such as cancer or asbestosis. I am no doctor, and none of what I say should be construed as expert medical advice, but your symptoms may be caused by an allergy.

One common allergy that is often overlooked is a dust mite allergy. If you are allergic to dust mites, you may experience such symptoms. They could go away for a month or two after you seriously clean your home, but once it gets dirty again, the dust mites may return.

Dust mites are microscopic bugs related to spiders and ticks. They don’t bite or cause any problems. They mostly just eat all the dead skin you shed every day that collects into dust. The problem is that some people are allergic to a chemical in dust mite droppings. It is estimated that 40 percent to 60 percent of homes and offices in the United States have dust mites, and many cases of asthma turn out to be caused by dust mites.

The good news is that dust mites are easily killed. All you have to do is drop the temperature in your home below 75F and drop the humidity to 60 percent or lower. Then, clean all of your clothes and bedding in hot water. Finally, steam-clean all of your carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture. If this works, you may have found the source of your problem.

No matter what is causing your serious medical condition, it should be checked out by your doctor. Your doctor can give you blood tests and other tests that can determine the exact cause of the problem. If it does turn out to be a serious chronic disease such as cancer, you do not want to wait. Every day you wait decreases your chances of survival.
